This certification covers various aspects of cybersecurity such as threat management, access management, cryptography, and identity management. Passing the Security+ SY0–601 exam requires dedication, hard work, and the right study resources. In this blog, I will share my experience of passing the CompTIA Security+ SY0–601 exam and provide tips that may help you succeed too.
Exam Objectives
CompTIA Security+ SY0–601 exam measures your knowledge and skills required to implement and manage core security technologies. Before you start preparing, take time to understand the exam objectives, which are available on the CompTIA website.
The exam objectives cover the five main domains as shown in the table below:-
1.0 Attacks, Threats, and Vulnerabilities — 24%
2.0 Architecture and Design — 21%
3.0 Implementation — 25%
4.0 Operations and Incident Response — 16%
5.0 Governance, Risk, and Compliance — 14%

CompTIA Security+ SY0–601 Exam is not an easy exam, and you need to use multiple study resources to pass it. Some of the popular study resources include books, videos, online courses, and practice exams. I used multiple resources to ensure that I covered all the exam objectives.
I started by taking the CompTIA Security+ Certification Prep course by A Cloud Guru. I also used the CompTIA Security+ SY0–601 Training Course Youtube course by Professor Messer.
Practice Exams
One of the most effective ways to prepare for the Security+ SY0–601 exam is by taking practice exams. Practice exams can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, build confidence, and improve your time management skills. I used the six sets of practice exams by Jason Dion.
Taking the Exam
The CompTIA Security+ SY0–601 exam consists of a maximum of 90 questions and the time limit for the exam is 90mins. The type of questions covered are multiple choice (one or many correct answers) and performance-based questions (PBQs). The passing score is 750/900.
To maximize the time allocated it’s always recommended to skip the performance-based questions (PBQs) and return to them later after answering the multiple choice.
